Empaths

For me the Queen of Cups represents a person (no matter the gender) that possesses the gift (and burden) of empathy. Their presence is warm and understanding and is the closest thing there is to Goddess in human form. (I have wonderful Queens of Cups in my life.) In response I am invoking the High Priestess. The High Priestess tells us what we need to know and is an excellent guide at times when we are perhaps a bit overwhelmed by emotions of others and ourselves. The High Priestess reminds us we don’t know everything, we can’t know everything and that’s okay. The High Priestess tells us what we need to know to move forward.

Today I pulled the 5 of Swords. I am doing shadow work today. This 5, like all fives, calls back to the Heirophant. This is often seen as a card of orthodoxy and meeting cultural expectations, a card based on the Pope. The 5 of Swords speaks of someone trying to hold you down, arguments, hostility and strife. I am reaching into the Dark Mirror Oracle deck and invoking Addicted. This card says, “it’s not about choosing the chains. It’s about choosing them again and again.” Then another card just presented itself, Death. Endings and new beginnings.

Lovers and Sex and Love

The Lovers is kind of a messy card for me. The Tarot sometimes has some ambiguity and concepts wrapped in cultural normative relationships. This card is one of those cards. It implies sex but love and passion is not always, perhaps most often not, expressed that way. Most of all I think this card implies choices. So I am invoking the 2 of Wands. Love is love. Sex is sex. They are intertwined, but separate. The 2 of Wands focuses on our ability to consent and ask for what we want and seek what we need.

The power of ones

Yesterday morning I pulled the Ace of Cups. I see the Aces as cards bearing unexpected news, like The Magician does. In this case it’s news in the realm of water: love and circulation. In response I am invoking Judgement. This card has a certain fluidity about it and in some decks it’s called rebirth. That’s what I am seeking to manifest — letting go of whatever no longer serves and growing into something better and beautiful.

Today I pulled the Two of Cups. For me this is a card of choice and a card of relationship(s). We have a lot of relationships. We have our soulmates, our friends, lovers, family, coworkers, pets and of course ourselves. Except for the relationship with ourselves, maybe, all relationships are optional and each is a journey unto itself. In recognition of the nature of relationships I am invoking The Fool. Strength and Water

The Justice card from The Modern Love Tarot Deck is one of the reasons, along with Jenya’s recommendation of the deck, that I bought this deck. So, is this couple’s therapy? Or, perhaps arbitration? Either process requires respect of the parties attending, how they express their love and what they want out of life no matter whether consensus can be found or not — that’s why I have invoked the 8 of Cups. This is the Strength card in the element of water.

Enjoy the foliage

Sit back and enjoy the foliage. That’s the message I get from today’s divination card, the 9 of Pentacles. There’s a lot wrong with the world now but there’s a lot to enjoy too. Today we’re taking a Capitola overnight getaway. I am invoking the Heirophant. This is a card of religious and cultural normativity for some and is often seen as being oppressive. I am invoking it more as a seer, a guide that teaches that love is love in all forms including more traditional ones and those not. For today: I am looking forward to a lovely day at the beach and dinner out with my awesome wife.

Choices

Life is a series of choices: choosing and being chosen and dealing with circumstances some we can control and some we can’t. We have to balance and juggle as best we can, good, bad, yin, yang. Sometimes juggling and choosing is fun and sometimes very not fun. That’s my divination card, the 2 of Pentacles.

I am invoking another card of choice, The Lovers, being a loving partner for others and especially ourselves. Blending these two I wish to manifest the essence of the serenity prayer. We too are made of Stardust

Today I pulled the Ace of Wands. I see the Aces as manifestations of the Magician, cards that bring unexpected news. In Wands this likely is news about something you’re passionate about. We are passionate about our cats. Tonight we are going to be invoking Bastet and releasing the ashes of our cat Shadow into this land. It’s going to be an emotional day. Therefore for my manifestation card I am choosing a particular version of the Star card from the Mystical Cats Tarot deck. The Star card is a card of transition and rebuilding. In the explanation of this card it says, “This is the great Mystery of faith: to trust that there is meaning and intention in the pattern of our lives. When we gaze upward and behold the Great Lion, we know that we too are made of Stardust.”

Note: Bastet is the Egyptian goddess and protector of the home, domesticity, and of course, cats, Bastet is also known for keeping the home free from evil spirits.

To give and receive, to help or accept help. I see this as a very important part of life.
