Potential

Today I pulled the 4 of Shields. I have been pulling a lot of fours lately. The Emperor, the teacher and in the realm of Earth. Today is a wedding and a hurricane. It’s also a day of realization of potential in a cause I have been passionate about. It’s so exciting to see potential starting to be realized.

Inspiration

Today’s card, The 4 of Cups, is a lesson in how something can change from being a source of melancholy to being a source of inspiration. A conversation with a colleague has left me so excited and feeling inspired for new beginnings and new possibilities. So mote it be.

It takes a village

For me the 6 of Pentacles is a card of community. We have a logical family of people committed to us and whom we are also committed. These people can be lovers, friends and/or biological family. This card is about the real physical give and take, helping and accepting help, that happens in that logical family some call a village or a tribe or even, sometimes, a polycule. I am invoking The Sun. This is a card for manifesting what we want and need in life and it does indeed take a village.

Nurturing

Nurturing grounds us and allows us to nurture others. This is the new moon in Libra. I pulled the Empress and am invoking the Queen of Pentacles. It’s a time to look at our relationships with others and with ourselves. In my opinion you can’t nurture if you can’t accept. Accept others and yourself just as you are and just as you are not. We are messy contradictory creatures and that can be beautiful, so beautiful if we don’t get hung up on the way we think we and others should be. Hug someone you love. Hug a total stranger (with consent of course) or wrap your arms around yourself and give that lovely creature some love and care. We all deserve it, you deserve it.

Have I arrived?

This morning I pulled the 4 of Pentacles. The fours are interesting, they reflect the Emperor in their element and are solid and staid. They are cards of accomplishment but can have a bit of discontent and melancholy about them, like the old song, is that all there is? I am invoking a different version of the four, The Teacher. The teacher asks if we have really arrived or..? There’s something to learn in all things.

Passage

I pulled Death this morning. As a dear friend said, "this is a very cathartic card." It’s a passing from one reality to another for all involved. There is a liminal point of transformation. The passage. With that in mind I am invoking the Six of Swords. So mote it be.

Synthesis

Threes for me are about synthesis and creativity — something new. This morning I pulled the 3 of Pentacles. In the realm of Earth that can be the result of steady work paying off. I am feeling that today! I am invoking The Star.  The Star follows The Tower in the major arcana. It’s the Phoenix rising from the ashes.

In the Twos

I am still in the twos this morning. As I said before, I see the twos as being about relationship and choice. The 2 of Swords for me is about indecision and lack of clarity. While yesterday I invoked the High Priestess, the two card in the major arcana, today I am taking it up a notch and am invoking The Moon. The Moon, it is said, reveals what the High Priestess conceals. Illusion is a projection of trauma. Our demons, our shadow and our traumas breath life into our insecurities and our delusions. The Moon asks us to channel the High Priestess and to take the journey within. That’s really where the answers are.

My birthday card for this year

My birthday card for this year — The Page of Cauldrons: This Page of Cauldrons is from Celtic Tarot, by Kristoffer Hughes. I pulled it during a music meditation at Harbin on my birthday. This page is stepping in that liminal space between the water world and land, symbolizing the juncture between emotion and the material world.
This is the Celtic Goddess Branwen (White Raven), the Welsh Goddess of Love and Beauty. On one shoulder is her totem, a starling and she’s carrying a fish, who is her guide and is speaking to her. Branwen’s wearing a dress of water, the very substance of love and circulation.
This page is a free and easy lover of people who loves abundantly but cannot be owned. This page’s love is given physically and metaphysically. There’s more going on than meets the eye with this page. Intuition and psychic abilities are being called upon.
She calls to listen, learn and be in tune with what’s going on around you. This page is a sign of new relationship structures and possibilities that express imagination, creativity and spirituality.

Choices

This morning I pulled the 2 of Pentacles. To me all the twos are about relationship and choices. This is in the realm of Earth and is about practical considerations like balancing our dreams and paying the rent. To choose, or choosing not to choose which is a choice too, we need to look outwards and inwards and so I am invoking this card’s trump. The High Priestess digs deep. It’s a card calling us to look inside ourselves. And, trust the journey.

Recovery Day

This morning I pulled the 10 of Wands. I am taking this as a sign that I have to let go of some things. I am invoking the Hermit for my recovery from back pain. To read, write, reflect and relax.

What now?

Tens are cards of completion for me and they reflect lessons learned along the way. The Wheel of Fortune is the ten in the Major Arcana and this reflects the seasons of life and impermanence. This ten is a completion in love and circulation and like all completion it’s a beginning of a new phase of life. The Wheel turns… I am invoking The World, the last card of the Major Arcana. This is a also a completion, the completion of the Fool’s journey. We wind up where we started. It too asks, what now?

The Six of Pentacles yesterday morning: material abundance, contentment and happiness. I am invoking The Sun for a fun excursion. It ended up being an awesome day

Subvert The Patriarchy

Today follows yesterday’s theme. I pulled the Emperor today. So why would I, a sishet white male, be so interested in subversion of patriarchy? Because, for starters, we can be our own oppressors.
I was not brought up like most males. My role models were my mother and my sisters. I embraced my feminine side. For some people, especially some women, that was not attractive. To others it was a superpower and it especially was when I was a single parent.
When I finally made peace with being an authentic version of myself I also embraced not caring whether that conforms with masculine or feminine expressions. I am invoking The Teacher again. In the words of the great sage Popeye the Sailor Man, “I ams what I ams and that’s alls that I ams.”

The Teacher

The Fours in the Tarot call back to the four in the Major Arcana, the Emperor. What are we to do if we desire to subvert the patriarchy? The Next World Tarot offers an alternative vision, the Teacher. This works perfectly for me today. In the realm of air to reflect on recent lessons and life, what do I need to learn?

Before rebirth

My cards lately have been about loss and letting go and embracing change. The card I pulled today was the 5 of Pentacles. This is a card of material loss and lack. It can also mean the end of a relationship of some sort. I am invoking the Tower. This may seem like an odd card to invoke but remember the Tower comes right before the Star. For rebirth to occur something has to end. Necessary losses are by definition necessary.

Necessary Ending

Today I pulled Death. This is a card of necessary ending. Death is what defines life. Everything and everyone has a beginning, a middle and an end. I am invoking the 8 of Cups. This is Strength, and alignment, in the realm of love and circulation. That’s the way I read it, our animal, intellectual and spiritual natures in alignment to manifest an authentic life, sometimes that means risking everything — and that’s not easy!

In Relationship

The Fool, today’s card, is a card signifying the start of a journey, an innocent journey of hope and optimism. In a sense every morning starts with the fool. I am invoking the Two of Cups. This two, like all twos, are cards of choice and relationships. All kinds of relationships: friends, family, lovers and especially the relationships we have with ourselves. This is what I wish to manifest for this lovely day with a good friend.

Clear Thinking

This morning I pulled the King of Swords. This card calls for clear thinking and careful planning. Doctors, lawyers, engineers and professors are good examples of the King of Swords energy. To focus this energy I am invoking Temperance because everything can be overdone; even being in your head — especially that.

Is That All There Is?

There was a song that was popular when I was young called, “Is That All There Is?” That’s what I hear with the card I pulled today, The Four of Cups. It’s about discontent. That’s where the Devil comes in. Folks think of the Devil working using titillation and temptations. I think the Devil works more through ambivalence, fear of change and boredom. Those are the real chains.
